The goal of Spanish 2 is to present students with relevant scenarios and topics pertaining to the target language within a structured class pace. This class is designed to strengthen students’ abilities with the language, while motivating their cultural and global curiosity & awareness. Students learn Spanish in context.
Grammar focus: This course starts with a review of the present tense (focusing on reflexive verbs and irregular forms). It progresses into preterit/imperfect. During the second half of the semester, the class offers an overview of the present perfect and future tenses. This class also goes over other targeted grammar points, such as prepositions (por/para), direct and indirect object pronouns, and other grammar focused aspects of the language at the intermediate level.
Vocabulary: We practice vocabulary in context, mostly examining different aspects of the Spanish speaking world. We talk about a multiplicity of topics, including nationalities, geography (countries/capitals), verbs used in the routine, ecotourism, verbs like gustar, Latin American identity and folklore, among others. Through these cultural scenarios, students practice a wide range of vocabulary.
